Sandalwood is highly valued for its aromatic scent, which is used in incense and perfume. Tropical Indian sandalwood and temperate dryland Australian sandalwood are two varieties that are commonly grown. Once established, sandalwood is a sensuous and potentially profitable tree to grow. Select an appropriate site to plant your sandalwood, then germinate and transplant your seeds. After your trees are established, give them appropriate care to keep them healthy.

Chandan Plant Care Instructions:

Water: If you get a period of dry weather, water the sandalwood tree. Twice per week, give it half a litre (.5 quart) of water. It is best to water sandalwood in the evening, which prevents excessive evaporation.

Soil: Sandalwood trees can be grown in any well-drained soils having good organic matter. However, red sandy loam soils are best for their growth and yield. If you are planning for commercial cultivation of sandalwood, it is advised to go for a soil test and fulfil the nutrient requirements in the soil based on soil test results. Sandalwood grows better in slightly alkaline soils with a pH range of 6.5 to 7.5.

Climate: Sandalwood crop requires and grows well in hot and humid climate conditions. The ideal temperature for sandalwood tree growth is between 12 and 35 degree celcius.

Fertilizer: Use Organic and chemical fertilizer to grow Chandan plant. Well rotten farmyard manure (FYM) like cow dung, garden compost, vermin-compost or any manure made from green leaves can be used.
